Each Wednesday, my students and I get together for a Q&A session.
They send in their personal questions and I spit off the top sharing my experience…
Like the good ol’ “Yo Elliott” days.
Yesterday I answered a question on the validity of the “Law of Attraction”.
My response was something along these lines...
There’s no denying that it works, nor is it as mystical as people make it out to be.
It is a law of nature…
That which you focus on you will attract.
I’ve seen it work in my own life and in countless other people’s lives.
BUT…
It's only a PARTIAL truth...
One side of the coin.
The “New-Agers” will have you believe it’s something novel…
But this principle has actually been a part of Catholic teaching for over two millennia.
In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus teaches us…
“Whatever you ask for in prayer with faith, you will receive.”
We should ask not for our own grandiosity, but to glorify in the Lord…
To make us an instrument of His will.
This is very different from the modern perspective on the “Law of Attraction”…
Where most people's attitude is selfish and ego-driven.
They approach it like they’ve found some magic genie who’ll grant them infinite wishes…
And give them anything they want.
Well, it doesn’t quite work that way.
It’s only when you’re in a state of grace, that God is able to work through you.
And the men in my program are finding that to be true in their own lives.
