Discipline Scatters Demons

Last week I attended a Catholic men's retreat in Oklahoma. One of the speakers there said something that struck me like a lightning bolt.

He said, "Discipline scatters demons."

When we think about the various temptations, addictions, attachments and vice in our lives we might consider them as demons...

...or FORCES OF CHAOS.

The opposite of chaos is order.

To experience order in our lives we need to practice discipline.

Discipline is about creating and enforcing boundaries, guidelines or a code of behavior that we strictly adhere to.
Discipline not only keeps the good going,
it also acts like a shield against all of the bad.
For example...

Last year I planted an orchard on the ranch. We have citrus trees, avocado trees, mango trees, peach trees and berries.

For the first few months I was diligent, vigilant and DISCIPLINED about picking weeds and keeping the trees free from pests.

But when summer came I got super busy with some new business projects and I let the orchard go.

I stopped enforcing the boundaries by keeping the weeds away.
The result?
Total collapse of order, which allowed chaos, demons (weeds) to take over.

All kinds of giant weeds and undesirable plants began to grow up in and around my precious fruit trees.

When you and I are disciplined we create a mental, physical and spiritual environment inhospitable towards chaos... or demonic influence.
  • When we follow a strict fasting or eating schedule, we keep the demon of gluttony at bay.
  • When we practice chastity, we keep the demon of lust at bay.
  • When we plan our days, weeks and months... and adhere to the schedule we're not just setting ourselves up for success... we are also kicking chaos, disorder and the sneaky demons out of our days.
Anyway, just some stuff I was thinking about... hopefully it sparks something new inside you.

Today my King Initiation students and I are going to discuss the importance of "killing the inner bitch" so that weakness, effeminacy and vice no longer rule our lives.

It's really all about discipline anyway... and for the next 21 day we are training our discipline muscles with a series of hardcore daily exercises.

I'll tell you more about it soon... maybe next week.
Keep growing stronger,
